Mint lime soda

by Effy A

This mint lime soda is ready in no time! It has less than 10 ingredients and takes minimal work. There’s already lemonade soda on the blog so this lime soda is the perfect counterpart. I think this soda is very fresh and tasty thanks to the mint simple syrup used here. It reminds me of Sprite.

I highly recommend freshly-squeezed limes to get a nicer lime juice taste. You can use a citrus press or reamer to squeeze out the lime juice from the limes. You will need at least four limes to make this work. Instead of using sugar, I opted for a mint syrup for a smoother taste. This basically consists of boiling equal parts water, sugar and mint leaves. Boil the three ingredients until it turns green. Steep the leaves and strain. And that’s it-you have a mint simple syrup. You could also use granulated sugar instead of syrup and blend everything with mint leaves.

Tonic water is what makes this similar to store-bought soda. The next best alternative is club soda but it won’t be as sweet and convincing. This drink recipe makes two servings so it is very portable as well. Just serve this lime soda over ice with extra lime, mint sprigs and you’re good to go! The mint adds a bit of freshness to the lime soda. It’s also best served chilled!

Another interesting lime recipe on the blog includes my Brazilian lemonade (which actually uses limes instead of lemons).
