Tom Collins

by Effy A

A Tom Collins is a classic gin staple. Honestly, it tastes like Smirnoff Ice to me so I’m always happy to make this on special occasions. This was originally posting during Pride Month, hence the fancy colors and background. Another cool Pride-themed drink is my cucumber kiwi mojito recipe. But overall, this drink looks straight up neutral.

To make a Tom Collins, you will need gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, ice and club soda. You will shake the gin, lemon juice, simple syrup over ice in a cocktail shaker but you could also use a mason jar with a lid. Shake the cocktail for at least 10 seconds, until the outside of the cocktail shaker/mason jar frosts.

Get a tall glass, preferably a Collins glass and fill it with ice and the maraschino cherries or lemon wedges. Then, strain the cocktail into the glass and top it up with club soda. You can garnish this as preferred, but maraschino cherries are commonly used and lemon wedges are also okay. This is an easy drink for one person so it’s great for chilling outdoors during patio season. If you are looking for another gin cocktail, check out my Galaxy vibe drink featured in my recipe book, The Cocktail Pit. Happy drinking!
