Classic Paloma

by Effy A

This classic Paloma cocktail is great for Christmas week. It is so handy for this festive occasion because this recipe yields a large batch which can serve more than 3 guests. I always forget to rim my glasses but basically just squeeze lime over your glasses and dip it into coarse salt. It is not very sweet but it is fruity and delicious!

You can make a Paloma cocktail in two ways:

  1. Make it with grapefruit juice, tequila, simple syrup, lime and top it with sparking water/club soda.
  2. Use grapefruit soda, tequila, simple syrup and lime.

This classic Paloma recipe follows the no.1 route because I couldn’t find grapefruit soda. But if you happen to find some, don’t hesitate! I think grapefruit soda is much better in a Paloma than club soda because it is way sweeter. Simple syrup is also just boiled water and sugar until it is dissolved so you don’t have to fuss about it. You can also use my spiced simple syrup or brown sugar syrup. Gold tequila is also highly recommended for this recipe. It tends to be sweeter than silver tequila which is better for blue margaritas.

A fun take on the classic Paloma is my pineapple Paloma which combines pineapple juice with grapefruit soda, syrup and tequila.
