Sloppy Joe sandwich

by Effy A

This is such a comforting sandwich to eat during cozy season. A Sloppy Joe sandwich is just made of a delicious spicy beef sauce which is sandwiched between toasted buns. The sauce is slightly sweet and savory at the same time and is just so epic! These Sloppy Joe sandwiches are filling, saucy and a top tier finger food. All you need are toasted buns, the beef sauce and you’re good to go. The title of this recipe says “spicy Sloppy Joe sandwich” but it’s nothing that you can’t handle. It’s just enough spice to make the beef sauce tasty but doesn’t make your tongue go numb or anything.

I love adding some grated Parmesan cheese and potato wedges to my Sloppy Joe but it’s entirely optional. It’s a really good way of eating it though.

If you don’t have Worcestershire sauce you can substitute it with soy sauce. I really like this Food 52 article on substitutes for Worcestershire sauce. Toasting your buns in the oven or on the stove top prevents your sandwich from getting all soggy and adds a new dimension of flavor to your Sloppy Joe. I used potato buns for this recipe and it was absolutely delicious. I made a Sloppy Joe pizza in my holiday cookbook, Cozy Delights.
