This week, I tried many things for the first time such as Brussel sprouts, churros, Jolly Rancher slushies among many others. These Brussel sprouts are too easy and are a great accompaniment for dinner. I tried them for the first time, and I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty they were. They are packed with tons of nutrients so you won’t lose out on making these for dinner. There are many ways to cook Brussel sprouts including boiling and baking them. This recipe is for pan-seared Brussel sprouts which are sautéed in unsalted butter.
Prepping the Brussel sprouts
Firstly, peel off any outermost leaves of the Brussel Sprouts, then trim the ends so it should now look round. Then cut the Brussel sprouts in half. I seasoned them with a teaspoon of table salt but you can add in black pepper if you’d like. The butter is really important because it gives the Brussel sprouts tons of flavor and prevents it from being bland. Regular cooking oil is also okay but I think it’s not as delicious, in my opinion. Toss the Brussel sprouts in melted butter in a large frying pan or skillet and let it lightly fry for up to 5 minutes. I read that cooking them longer than that turns them bitter so I think this is a great cooking time. You will see a nice browning on the edges and that’s what you want.
Brussel sprouts are much crispier on the day you make them. Leftovers are okay but I think they lose their firm texture as time goes on. Serve these pan-seared Brussel sprouts with sweet and sour sauce or even ranch and you will have a light, healthy snack on your hands. I’ve also linked some homemade sauces on the blog that you might find appealing in the recipe card below. Happy munching!
