Must-see dessert spots in Toronto

by Effy A

Christmas season aka turn up season is on its way! Call this list a bucket list if you want-Just go see these places if you are a sweettooth ASAP. These lovely places offer incredible dessert options at an affordable price in Toronto. These are my personal recommendations so they fit my taste in food. The best part is that you don’t have to break the bank when you visit these interesting dessert spots in Toronto. Seasonal menus aside, please note that some of these restaurants might have made changes to their menus so just use this as a guide.

Pickle Barrel

Locations: Various

Pickle Barrel is one of the cosiest restaurants in Toronto. They have an all-round menu from burgers, to dinners. But they really have a yummy dessert menu, with grandiose desserts which are totally Instagrammable. What I love about this lovely restaurant is how delicious their food is every single time. So I highly recommend this spot for any first dates or catch ups with long lost friends.

Strawberry milkshake and chocolate cake ($9.99)

Fugo Desserts

Location: 265 Queen St W, Toronto

Fugo Desserts is one of the best dessert spots in Toronto to ever do it. These mini donuts were so memorable and I really enjoyed this selection because of how adorable they were. These mini donuts came in unique flavors such as rosemary-pistachio, churro, s’more, apple pie and crème brulee. They also offer lattes, milk teas, iced coffees and juices. You can order online for pickup options and they offer catering.

Speciality donuts (6 pack-$6.60)

Fuwa Fuwa Pancakes

Locations: 408 Bloor St. W, Toronto | 2471 Yonge Street, Toronto

This Japanese restaurant is apparently North America’s largest soufflé and dessert café. “Fuwa Fuwa” means “fluffy fluffy” and it’s pretty much accurate. I really enjoyed their fluffy, jiggly pancakes, which are like eating delicious, airy clouds. They come with extra sauce on the side so it’s a grand experience to eat at this dessert joint. I highly recommend going with someone special to this lovely café.

Strawberry pancakes (top, $13.55) and tiramisu pancake ($15.35)

Demetres

Locations: 400 Danforth Avenue, Toronto | 2962 Bloor Street West, Etobicoke | 3250 Dufferin Street, North York | 16 Marie Labatte Road, Toronto

Demetres was introduced to me by a friend and I was soon impressed by their collection of waffles, ice cream, crêpes, cakes, parfaits and sundaes. They also offer ice cream sandwiches, hot and cold drinks, and other delightful sweet-tooth options. This fun dessert spot in Toronto has so many locations outside of Toronto including Whitby, Etobicoke, Brampton, Burlington, Markham, Missisauga, and Oakville.

Tsjuri Patisserie

Locations: 4909 Yonge St, North York | 147 Dundas St. W., Toronto

This century-old matcha brand lives up to its name, and everything in their beautiful shop reeks of good taste. They have match everything-match cream puffs, eclairs, lava cake and drinks and so on. If matcha is your thing, you should definetly check it out. I tried their Monaka parfait and it was incredible! It was layered with cornflakes, matcha soft serve ice cream, chestnut paste, mochi warabi balls and Japanese cheese. This parfait was full of many surprising flavors and an absolute dream to eat.

The Cheesecake Factory

Location: 3401 Dufferin St, North York (Yorkdale Shopping Mall)

Marsmallow S’mores Galore

The Cheesecake Factory has a dinner menu as well, but most people from over the GTA come here becuase of their exquisite cheesecake. They have long waiting times so make a reservation if you plan to dine in! Alternatively, they have a takeout option close to the front desk, where you can avoid all that hustle and simply queue with similarly eager Torontonians to take home their yummy treats. I ordered their marshmallow s’mores galore: a chocolate cheeesecake topped with toasted marshmallow and Graham crackers. My friend got the Oreo dream: a layered chocolate fudge cake with Oreo cookie mousse.
