December is the blog’s 6th anniversary and today also happens to be the last day of my 20s. To mark this important occasion, I tried out mulled wine, which I’ve been dying to try for a while. It’s sweet and so soothing in cozy weather. I’m not currently living in a climate with a winter season, but if you are… this recipe is perfect for you.
The best part about this recipe is two things. Firstly, it is done entirely on the stove-all you do is add the ingredients to a saucepan and keep it on low heat. Secondly, it takes only 15 minutes. The key thing is to ensure that the wine isn’t boiling continously (pictured below) and is kept on a low simmer. To achieve this, simply put the heat on low. And you’re set for the next 10 minutes.
This mulled wine recipe is best served very warm. You can garnish it with orange slices or cinnamon sticks. Enjoy!
Ingredients
1 large orange, sliced
2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
1/4 cup brandy
1-2 whole cinnamon sticks
6 whole cloves
750ml bottle red wine (I used Merlot)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine all the ingredients.
- Bring to a simmer then reduce the heat to low once it starts to boil. Let it simmer for 10 minutes.
- Serve warm and garnish with orange slices or cinnamon sticks.
- Note that it gets spicier over time so you can strain leftovers.
